WATCH: Underwater Kavachi Volcano erupts, 'mutant' sharks released into ocean

Did you know that there's a species of shark that lives inside a volcano?

Off the coast of the Solomon Islands lies the Kavachi Volcano, the most active underwater volcano in the Pacific Ocean. Underwater volcanoes are known as submarine volcanoes.

Now, images from NASA have shown that this volcano has erupted!

As much as submarine volcanoes are well-known, what makes this volcano unique are the animals that call it home. 

This is why the Kavachi Volcano has been dubbed, "Sharkcano". 

Sharkano is home to two species of sharks living in the submerged crater.

These sharks, which include scalloped hammerhead sharks and silky sharks, were discovered during a scientific expedition to Kavachi in 2015.

The scientists also found microbial communities thriving on the sulphur.
