As Grade 12 learners get ready for their trial exams, the question of university is on everyone's lips.

According to a 1,000-strong list from The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, eight universities from South Africa made the cut for the world's best tertiary institutions.
Sky Tshabalala, who is a high school sports coach for Westville Boys High School, emphasised the importance of education and the path students follow.
"I always talk to my senior guys in the team to ensure that whichever university they go to, it must be a university that they like and that they will excel at," says Sky.
These institutions have been tirelessly fostering innovation, driving research breakthroughs, and moulding the minds of tomorrow's leaders.
University of Cape Town (UCT) is the top university on the list, with the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) picking up second place, but Sky was particularly intrigued to know that KwaZulu-Natal also boasts a university within the top global rankings.

University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has successfully combined its strengths to become a leading research and academic diversity institution.
The university's commitment to African scholarships has resulted in groundbreaking research that addresses local and global challenges.
Other SA universities that also made it onto the list are Stellenbosch University, University of Pretoria (UP), Rhodes University, North-West University, and University of South Africa (UNISA).
