The South Durban Community Environmental Alliance says we need to engage and have meaningful conversations about these challenges.
The group's Serelee Odayar says unity should be our focus, as we mark Africa Day on Tuesday.

"We have seen for many years in South Africa that xenophobia has reached havoc in South Africa - in Durban particularly.
"And we know that this needs to stop and there needs to be unity in South Africa amongst all nations, all creeds and colours and that it why we need to show solidarity to the rest of Africa - that we are standing with you."
The Alliance is hosting an event at the Durban beachfront later.
