Disney star Selena Gomez appears to be going through a rough patch in her life. Several international news reports suggest the singer has suffered an emotional breakdown.

According to TMZ, Selena has been admitted into a mental health facility for treatment.

The publication claims her breakdown is her second in two weeks.

Selena, who has lupus, allegedly became "emotional" in the last week of September about her low white blood cell count following her kidney transplant.

She was reportedly taken to the hospital and discharged a few days later, but she had to be re-admitted last week because of her low white blood cell count.

"Soon after she was admitted she insisted on leaving, but doctors said she couldn't. We're told Selena had "a meltdown" and "freaked out." Selena tried ripping the IV's out of her arm.," TMZ claimed.

Selena has been keeping a low profile since announcing that she will be taking a social media break.

"Taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi," she wrote.

Selena's ex, Justin Bieber, who married model Hailey Baldwin months after their break-up, is said to be "upset" about the news.

Cosmopolitan shared pictures of the 'Beauty and the Beat' hitmaker being comforted outside a church shortly after TMZ broke the story.

Selena is allegedly receiving Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), a therapy she has used in the past.

"DBT completely changed my life... I wish more people would talk about therapy. We girls, we’re taught to be almost too resilient, to be strong and sexy and cool and laid-back, the girl who’s down. We also need to feel allowed to fall apart," she told Vogue magazine last year.
