Miss South Africa first runner-up Bryoni Govender says she can't describe how excited she is to start her Miss Universe journey.

Organisers officially introduced Bryoni as the pageant's contestant for the 72nd Miss Universe competition on Tuesday.

Reigning Miss SA Natasha Joubert will not be taking part in any international pageants. Click here for more details on why she won't be entering Miss Universe and Miss World.

"Like the galaxies and stars that shine bright in the sky, @bryoni.ng sets to radiate South Africa’s light at this years @missuniverse pageant," Miss SA captioned a picture of Bryoni on Instagram.

Bryoni is the second South African of Indian descent to represent the country at Miss Universe. Miss South Africa 1997 Kerishnie Naiker participated in the 1998 pageant.

Bryoni says she will be giving her all to ensure the crown comes back home to South Africa.

"I cannot describe how excited I am to start this Miss Universe journey and, as this new chapter unfolds, I am fully committed to my support of women equality in South Africa," the 27-year-old said in a statement.

"My advocacy is to address and remove the gaps in the progress of women empowerment by introducing mentorship programmes focusing on business and leadership courses, entrepreneurial and job training programmes and skills development training programmes on secondary to post-tertiary levels of education for girls and women," qualified lawyer added.
