Wildlife rehab centre receives a donation from Home Fabrics and The Big Favour

Animals deserve a safe home with adequate special care especially after being injured. CROW is that place for KZN indigenous animals.

CROW Big Favour

For non-profit organization, the pandemic has definitely been a nightmare. CROW is one of this organisations that find themselves without enough finances to sustain themselves because of they are entirely reliant on the support of the public, corporates, foundations and Trust’s for funding.

They were originally founded in 1977 by local conservationist Isolde Mellet and were the first dedicated wildlife rehabilitation centres in South Africa. Following a move to its current home and official founding place in Yellowwood Park in 1980, the centre’s small but dedicated team was able to expand its operation – helping to rescue, rehabilitate and release between 3000 and 4000 injured, orphaned and displaced wild animals each year.

41 years later, and CROW remains Durban’s only registered and fully permitted (including TOPS and TOPS Marine species) wildlife rehabilitation centre. From mongoose to genets, monkeys to birds and scrub hares to reptiles, CROW provides our indigenous wildlife with a second chance at a free, safe and sustainable life in the wild.

As one of South Africa’s leading wildlife rehabilitation centres’ CROW strives to improve the quality of wildlife rehabilitation in South Africa, as well as educate the general public on Kwa-Zulu Natal’s spectacular wildlife to ensure it is never taken for granted.

One big way they have previously been able to grow funds for the faiclity was through a fundraising event that they plan every year. This year they were supposed to host their 40th anniversary gala dinner but we all know what stopped that from happening.

Another financial knock was the loss of their international volunteer program which used to cover up to half of their overheads when we they are fully booked. Since lockdown at the end of March 2020, only had 5 international volunteers have made a contribution to CROW.

The Big Favour fortunately exists to make life better in such situations. Home Fabrics is a business which provides homes with everything fabric and wallpaper related distributors. They also have specialize in a variety of upholstery, curtaining, outdoor furniture, wall covering and contract collections to the South African and African market. They made a donation to CROW to alleviate their struggles.

We made a call to CROW where the Managing Director of Home Fabrics shared that they would be making a donation.

Donations can be made to CROW via EFT, PayPal and Zapper. They also have a wish list on their website. If any companies are able to give them their sell by date fruit and vegetables this would be a massive help.

Each year CROW partners with Compass Cares to raise funds through our Calendar Campaign. This years Calendar Campaign will be launched in August 2021. If your listeners would like to support us by purchasing a 2022 calendar please contact [email protected]

Another huge thank you to Home Fabrics for think about the animals when we are all trying to recover from the pandemic and an unrest that left KZN shook.
