How to have fun for under R200
Updated | By Sponsored
Times are tough, we
all know that. However, just because money may not be flowing easily out of
your bank account, it does not mean that you can't go out and have some fun.
Here are five activities that you can enjoy for under R200:
Durban Botanic Gardens
The best part about Africa’s oldest surviving Botanic Gardens is that entrance is free. That's right, you won't pay a cent to enjoy the splendour of the gardens, although donations are welcomed. Whether you are just keen on taking a leisurely walk through the beautiful gardens on your own or want to learn more on a guided tour (a small fee is required and booking essential), the Durban Botanic Gardens offers a day out to just relax and unwind. If you want to use some of that R200 you saved on the free entrance, why not take a picnic along and just chill under the trees or spoil yourself with a treat at the Tea Garden. One of the recommended attractions is The Butterfly Habitat Garden, which has been designed specifically to attract various butterflies - a joy to behold.
Watch A Live Sporting Event
Contrary to popular belief, watching the KwaZulu-Natal sports sides does not cost an arm and a leg. Tickets to watch cricket at Kingsmead Cricket Ground, rugby at Kings Park Stadium or football at Moses Mabhida Stadium go for as little as R50, meaning you will still have R150 to buy some treats (beer for the grown ups). So, don't be put off by what you perceive to be high ticket prices and get out there to support your local teams.
Fun World Amusement Park
Take a trip down memory lane and visit the iconic Fun World Amusement Park. The park is a safe place for all ages to go and have some fun - and the best part is that entry is free. Yes, you will have to pay for the rides and cable car, but your R200 will buy you more than enough in the fun department. The park is located opposite Marine Parade Holiday Inn on Durban’s Beachfront and will take you back to your childhood where carnivals and fun fairs were all the rage.
Dolphin Watching
The Dolphin Coast has some magnificent beaches to enjoy, but it is the fun-loving creatures that inhabit the water which are the focus of this particular activity. Seeing a pod of dolphins playing in the waves is not just great fun to watch, but their fun-loving demeanour is rather cathartic. Take that R200 note and purchase some goodies for a beach picnic and try to spot the dolphins. Fear not if you don't see them the first time you go, the best part about looking for any natural wonder is the adrenaline rush you get when you eventually spot them. If you have kids, you could even make a game out of it, with the first person to spot a dolphin winning an ice-cream.
Point Waterfront Canal Gondola Ride
Have you ever wanted to visit Venice in Italy? Well, your R200 can almost get you there. Book a gondola ride along the Point Waterfront Canal and be transported to the magic that Venice would no doubt provide. There are various options for your gondola ride, including time of day, whether you want to enjoy a picnic, a romantic ride with your significant other, and even a themed ride. Trips start from R60 per person, so you will even have a bit of change left over to enjoy another Italian delight afterwards - ice-cream.
