As a lover of good quality art, it can be said that it takes time, energy, and a good eye to recognise the key elements of art. Yes, it has a lot to do with one's sense of taste and preference.
But more than that it has to do with the skill involved in each brush stroke, the translation of an artist's vision onto their canvas, or whatever means they are using. Of course, we know that art can be in varied forms, photography and sculpture is art as much as painting is...
And each skill has it's own methods, it's own process...
If there is one thing that is a common thread, it is the quality of the equipment or in this case, the brushes that are used when creating your masterpiece.
This comes true after we saw a video insert of the most expensive brushes in the world, which happen to be calligraphy brushes. The art of making these brushes comes with great technique, great product, and even greater patience.
The attention to detail, the time and the skill involved from selecting the highest quality of raw hair to the assembly of the brushes, is part of the main reasons that these brushes can retail for around $1,000, which is roughly around R15,000.
A beginner brush can be around $15, which is around R220. But when it comes to custom-handmade brushes, there are very few brush makers around. Brush making in itself then is considered an art form in Japan and one such third-generation brush maker, Yoshiyuki Hata, said that he took twenty years to make one custom brush.
The different types of hair that is used to create the brush also impacts the price, Yoshiyuki's speciality is the most expensive, which includes goat hair that was collected 50 years ago...
