Isn't it amazing how we all experience different seasons depending where we are in the world. It's funny to hear that as we are experiencing a huge drop in temperatures in Durban and other parts of South Africa, the United Kingdom is currently facing a heatwave.

As they all try to find ways to cool down, we are digging out the warm coats and blankets to keep warm. Ironic, isn't it.

Of course, as South Africans, and especially as Durbanites/KZNers, we are very familiar with unbearable heat. Whether it's finding a fan that spurts out water or getting a blow up pool to stay cool in, we have tried it.

But what happens if you are told that you cannot wear shorts to school because it goes against the school attire policy. Well, we would say, as much as rules are rules, they are there to be broken...

Quote us on that and we will deny it blatantly...

Adrian Copp, a 15-year-old school boy, decided to challenge his school's uniform policy when he and a group of his friends were told that they could not wear shorts to school, even though the temperatures were soaring above 30°C.

He decided to make a statement and, boy, did it get our attention. "Instead, the teenagers have decided to take advantage of a loophole in Poltair School’s uniform policy which allows pupils of any gender to wear skirts," Metro reports.

Adrian's mother helped him and two of his friends, Scott Penman and Connor Humphries, get some pleated skirts and they went ahead and rocked the skirts to school. They came under fire from some teachers, while other teachers just thought they were fooling around.

As much as they went against the norm, they were technically in the right according to the the policy. Their efforts in creating this spectacle wasn't just for fun or to deal with the heat, they wanted change.

"Adrian said he hoped the protest would force the school to change their policy not only for the boys, but also for the schoolgirls who would rather wear shorts than a skirt." (Metro)
