Today, the 20th of January, Joe Biden will be taking the office after winning the November elections and will become the 46th president of the United States.
Today is a very serious day.

Although we as South Africans do not get too directly affected by much of the happenings and events in America, the bigger changes, such as the election of a new president, can have a major effect on our own homeland.
Now usually the presidential inauguration is one of the biggest events of the year.
This year, however, things are looking drastically different.

Four years ago the crowds were packed to the rafters.
A lot can change in four years, but even more, has changed in just one.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the storming of the Capitol which only happened a few weeks ago, the event has had to be altered and many changes have had to be made.
Usually, the crowds are filled with individuals from the public, government officials, and every other politically significant person under the sun.

This year it's going to resemble a small friends-and-family gathering rather than a huge, mindblowing congregation.
They are not abandoning the partying side with some very special performances forming part of the day.
