This Instagram flex when buying property could land you in a whole lot of trouble

Buying a property is an exciting milestone. It’s the biggest financial decision you will make in your lifetime and when buying your first home, it’s only natural to want to celebrate this exciting moment. But, Kyle Mattison, also known as That Property Guy, has issued a stern warning to new homeowners when it comes to the trend of sharing a photograph holding the keys to their new house on Instagram.

The expert took to TikTok to share a dangerous trend that new homeowners do when getting the keys to their new property.

In the video, which has been viewed more than one-million times, Kyle poses in front of a house where he is proudly holding up a key with all the notches visible.

"Don't do this when you get keys to your new home,” he says in the clip. "It's an exciting time and you may want to announce it to friends and family but don't post a picture where the key is clearly visible. It's possible for people to replicate keys using these pictures."

Kyle explains that homeowners should treat their house key the same way that they would any other piece of sensitive information.

The video proves a valid point and has people second guessing the actions of their past. One user suggests that people change the locks as soon as they move into their new property.

Another urges viewers to never share they keys because many often include a "code on the key can be used to make a new key".

"Don't tag the location as well," a third person suggested.
