#AskAParent: My surrogate wants to be the one to name our child
Updated | By Nobuntu Swartbooi
Anele and her husband thought they had found the perfect surrogate, until six months into the pregnancy...
Every week on #AskAParent, we try and help moms and dads to overcome their problems by getting advice from East Coasters about their parenting situations.
Today’s parent who needs help is Anele.
Anele and her husband could not conceive, so they decided to get a surrogate. But the surrogate who is carrying their child has made an unusual demand.
Hi Vic
Thank you so much for an amazing show.
I’m hoping you and your listeners can help me. So, my husband and I could not conceive for the last three years and so we decided to use a surrogate.
The process went well and we found someone who has just been incredible.
She is now 6 months pregnant with a very healthy baby girl.
Last week she told my husband and I that she wants to be the one to name the child.
I didn’t even know what to say because this will be our first and probably only child and it feels wrong to let our surrogate name her.
But at the same time I don’t want to seem ungrateful. What should I do?

Should Anele let the surrogate name her child or tell her no, she has no right?
