Akon continues efforts to build self-named, futuristic city
Updated | By East Coast Radio
The US-Senegalese music star is creating a futuristic Pan-African city based on 'Wakanda'.
'Wakanda' is the technologically advanced African city depicted in 'Black Panther', and although it is fictional, Akon has taken it as the inspiration for his own smart city.

'Akon City' is an eight-million square meter, solar-powered city that was first announced by the star in 2018 and has since been backed and funded by unnamed investors, as well as the Senegalese government.
This week, Akon, alongside Alioune Sarr, the minister of tourism in Senegal, announced that they have laid the first stone for the city.
It took place in Mbodiene, which is a coastal village 100km from the capital city, Dakar.
