Miley Cyrus apologises for her comments in 2017 about hip-hop
Updated | By Thandolwethu
Better late than never, right? The superstar has decided to speak up regarding some comments she made about hip-hop from way back when.
People let Miley Cyrus have it back in 2017 when she clowned hip-hop music, claiming that she was no longer a big fan of rap music despite many feeling like she profited from the genre.
According to ABC News, Cyrus spoke to Billboard about her not liking certain rap lyrics, and added that it "pushed [her] out of the hip-hop scene a little.”
It seems that things have taken a big turn two years later, because this past Tuesday, Cyrus responded to a fan’s YouTube video, titled “Miley Cyrus is my problematic fav...sorry”, with a lengthy comment.
Check out the video below:
Miley responded to the fan's video which was pinned to the top of the comment's section. She said that her comments were insensitive, and deeply apologised. Miley owned up in a big way.
"Just watched your video. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak up. Being silent is not like me at all. I am aware of my platform and have always used it the best way I know how and to shine a light on injustice. I want to start with saying I am sorry. I own the fact that saying ... "this pushed me out of the hip hop scene a little” was insensitive as it is a privilege to have the ability to dip in and out of “the scene”. There are decades of inequality that I am aware of, but still have alot learn about. Silence is apart of the problem and I refuse to be quiet anymore. My words became a divider in a time where togetherness and unity is crucial . I can not change what I said at that time , but I can say I am deeply sorry for the disconnect my words caused. Simply said ; i f****d up and I sincerely apologize . I’m committed to using my voice for healing , change , and standing up for what’s right. Miley," she said

The woman who uploaded the video replied and thanked Miley for hearing her out.
"Miley Cyrus OMG I AM DREAMING. I know your heart that was point of my video to highlight that u on several occasions have spoken up for what is right. Thank you for hearing me out," she said.
I'm the type of person that feels that when you do mess up, it's only right to apologise there and then. Sometimes it's hard to utter the words 'I'm sorry', so I really take my hat off to Miley who plucked up the courage to do right and admit that she was wrong - even if it was two years after the fact.
When was a time that you had to admit defeat and apologise?
