Katy Perry ruffles feathers following American Idols kiss
Updated | By Damon Beard
Experiencing your first kiss should be a moment that is sacred and treasured. This American Idols contestant got a lot more than he bargained for at his recent audition.
Listen as Darren Maule chats to Damon about Katy Perry's harasment allegations in the podcast, then read more below:
Katy Perry has come under fire for recently kissing a 19-year-old contestant on the popular TV show, American Idol.
When it was his time to shine, Benjamin Glaze started talking with the judges about his life and his job as a cashier. He added that although he got to meet cute girls, he still has not been kissed, as he wanted to save it for his first, true relationship. Sweet, right?
Katy then proceeded to call him up to the panel and at this point, any guy would have run toward the beautiful superstar. Instead, he looked a bit uncomfortable and said 'no wait, come on'. He added that he only wanted to kiss her on the cheek. But it seems that it wasn't enough for Perry, as it didn't make the 'smush sound' (wait, is that what a kiss truly sounds like?!).

As he moved in for the second kiss, Katy turned her face toward him and kissed him on the lips, causing him to fall to the floor exclaiming, 'YOU DIDN'T!'.
Unfortunately his audition was rejected and the only thing he managed to collect was a smooch from the superstar.
The incident was met with mixed reactions. Some said that they felt that Glaze was sexually harassed, while others have said that the media is just overreacting.
Clear case of #SexualHarrassment. This is a family show #KatyPerry

I love katy, and I think that media is a little bit too dramatic. However, I also wonder what would be if Benjamin was a girl and katy a man.

This has me feeling all kinds of ways. It wasn't consensual but he didn't mind it either. Still, no one should ever do this to another person

Benjamin took to his Instagram to share his thoughts on the 'incident'.
'I am not complaining about the kiss, I am very honored and thankful to have been apart of American Idol. The main purpose for the show is to find stars and new music artist. I do wish I would have performed better in the moment,' he said.

I've seen the video a few times and I believe that the media is just overreacting. More often than not we see headlines that have been sensationalised to the point where it actually starts to sound like lies. I think Katy's intentions were good and he has even openly said that he didn't feel harassed, so why is everyone so hung up over it?
