Is it right for parents to choose the gender of their unborn baby?

Many couples that are trying to have a child normally have some inkling as to whether it's going to be a boy or a girl, and with that comes all the bits of advice on things prospective parents can do to influence the gender.

But in this day and age with the growing popularity of in vitro fertilization (IVF), more parents-to-be are gaining the ability to determine, with almost 100% certainty, the gender of their baby.

According to CNN, model Chrissy Teigen and her husband, singer John Legend, announced a few months ago that they chose the gender of their baby - a baby daughter, but they have since faced an uproar, and it seems that the public at large are now also wondering if Kim Kardashian and Kanye West selected the sex of their baby boy, who was born in December?

But what are the most common concerns that experts and the general public have over sex selection?

It's not safe for the embryo, it could lead to gender bias, and it could divert resources away from medically-necessary IVF.

Although we have 21st-century technology available to us, a number of countries, including the United Kingdom and Canada, have placed bans on sex selection for "social uses". Personally, I believe that we are playing with science a bit too much and parents should be happy with whatever nature gives them.

However, I do know that it's a tricky one and I'm not a parent, so I'm not the best judge, so I'm putting it out to you for your advice...
