Is carrying your partner's surname an outdated tradition?

After the happily ever after, there are some things you have to ask yourself, like whether or not to take your spouse's last name. Has this 'tradition' become outdated?
In this day and age, it seems that more and more women are choosing not to take on their husband's surname after the big day.
Yes, some may take on their spouse's surname for religious or cultural reasons, but others prefer to keep their maiden name for both feminist and admin-related reasons. This I fully understand.

Is it really worth the hassle of endless queues at Home Affairs, the bank, and all the emails to HR?
This is the case of Minnie Dlamini, who recently became Mrs Jones. Does that in some way pull her out of the spotlight? Will her fans still remember her as Miss Dlamini or would her surname change the way people respond to her?

So it got me thinking - do you think taking on your partner’s surname is an outdated tradition? Or are people just kicking up a fuss over nothing?
