This couple’s enchanting garden sprouts support for healthcare workers

Tony and Marie have been working on their award-winning garden for 38 years, and their lasting love has grown from the ground up!
Growing a garden takes time, patience, and devotion – just like a relationship. Husband and wife Tony and Marie Newton know this all too well. The couple have sown their years of wisdom into an enchanting paradise. Their garden in Walsall, England is not only the culmination of their commitment, but has become a source of support for healthcare workers.
Tony’s zeal for landscaping took root during his childhood, while Marie grew a love for plants at university. After meeting Tony in her first year, he offered her some tips of the trade, and soon their shared passion began to flourish. As they journeyed through life together, working and raising their children, their garden evolved. In 1992, the couple decided to focus all of their energy on it. For the next 11 years, without any additional help or a horticulture degree in sight, the two created the Four Seasons Garden right from their home.
This magical project is open to the public. Here, dazzling emerald hues blanket the landscape as red and purple tinted plants create a striking contrast. Flowers burst open with the touch of light, attracting delicate butterflies and singing birds. Benches pepper the scenery, offering peaceful rest points for visitors to immerse themselves in the garden’s architecture.
Since 2006, more than 15 000 guests from 48 different countries have walked these lush paths. Through their garden, the Newtons have raised over £50 000 to support nursing charities and healthcare workers. While their dedication has sprouted a stunning sanctuary, it’s also making a positive impact on others. “Working together towards something truly beautiful has enriched our lives,” Tony says. “It’s given us a sense of meaning and purpose.”
