Singer Duffy recently revealed that she was raped and kidnapped, and has called on Netflix to remove the movie '365 Days' - as she believes the film is dangerous.

On the surface, the movie is marketed as a thriller with a man stalking a woman, kidnapping her, and her falling in love with him. With fancy cars, a beautiful home, and stunning locations, many young viewers have said that they want to be kidnapped by Massimo, too. If you search for the movie description, this is what you will find: 'A woman falls victim to a dominant mafia boss, who imprisons her and gives her one year to fall in love with him.' Surely no one would sign up for this...

Although the movie received terrible ratings upon its release, it climbed steadily to the number 1 spot on Netflix, as teens reenacted scenes from the film on TikTok. That is millions of impressionable teens reenacting scenes of violence. Sound the alarm bells, please!

Netflix did, however, mark the movie as controversial, but social media users are having none of it.

With the ever-increasing rate of gender-based violence in South Africa and the world, we are forced to ask ourselves if this movie glamorises rape and the abuse of women.
