Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
The veteran US rocker's death has come as a shock to family, friends, and fans throughout the world.
My heart sunk this morning when I woke up to the news that Tom Petty had died at the age of 66. The rock 'n roll legend was known for his slick vocals and distinct guitar skills.
His family took to his social media to share the news of his untimely death from a cardiac arrest after he was taken to hospital on Sunday.

I can't tell you how many times I have sung my heart out to Free Fallin by Tom Petty. I can still remember the first time that I heard the Traveling Wilburys Vol 1.
The album was such a classic and not to mention the collection of top draw artists such as George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lyn and Jim Kelter. Come to think of it, the only ones alive off the iconic album cover are Jeff and Bob.

It's never easy losing someone you love and just by seeing the comments on social media, his fans (myself included) are absolutely devastated at the loss of this rock 'n roll icon.
Here's me sending comfort, golden light and strength to the Petty family. X
