A hamster is a solitary burrowing rodent with a short tail and large cheek pouches for carrying food, native to Europe and North Asia.

Although this animal isn’t native to South Africa, it is a very common family pet.

We hear stories of hamsters escaping the cage, getting eaten or taken by other animals and other major accidents that occur.
