Meet the KZN entrepreneur who is stirring up mixed emotions with her #MakotiBootCamp
Londiwe Shezi is a young KwaZulu-Natal entrepreneur from Newlands West whose latest venture is raising a few eyebrows.
As part of her business, 'Silo Brides', which hires and sells traditional wedding outfits for brides-to-be of different cultures, Londiwe has recently launched an extension of this which she calls the #MakotiBootCamp.
#MakotiBootCamp has been gaining a lot of media attention which ordinarily would be great for a local business and entrepreneur, but some of the attention has been with regards to why a boot camp is necessary for a bride-to-be. Some people have also questioned whether this boot camp is sexist.
When Stacey and JSbu first saw the #MakotiBootCamp poster, they were intrigued and curious. JSbu immediately questioned whether Londiwe and her team would also be running a #MkwenyanaBootcamp, which would be for grooms.
In a Facebook post, Londiwe shares the following with regards to what happens at the boot camp:
Makoti Boot Camp has nothing to do with making a woman a door mat but everything to do with bringing out and embracing our womanhood through tradition. The camp is more than just about cooking, we discuss a lot of issues and build each other up. We create a non judgmental platform to learn without being judged (trust me, I know how it is to be judged by your in-laws for not being able to do certain things.) You are viewed as less of a woman. Makoti Boot Camp is a personal journey of which if I have had the similar opportunity, I would have attended.

It is sexist, doing things like cooking isn't gender based its basic survival, since when should a woman have to be trained to do things a certain way? What about a man? Can we please make boot camps for men to teach them respect, loyalty and how to respect a woman. Maybe then our women and children would be safer....bootcamp for wives to be...lmao 🤣
It might help to know how to take care of a household. Since they took away home economics in school nowadays. My home economics classes that I took has helped me to sew and mend buttons plus cook etc
