Mam’ Sibongile Khumalo the renowned and celebrated jazz singer has passed away at 63

Sibongile Khumalo's closest friend revealed the news of her passing late Thursday evening. 

Details concerning her death are still to be released by the family.

The news came unexpected leaving many South Africans stunned by the news. 

The Sowetan-born stars career began  as a music teacher but she dreamt of becoming an opera singer not knowing that her dreams will come to life. During her career, Sibongile made a profound impact on the arts in South Africa and indeed the world. 

She, without a doubt has touched the hearts of thousands across Mzansi with hits such as Mayihlome and Thula Mama which became household names.

With her being known for her award-winning opera and concert work, Sibongile has also performed for distinguished audiences at events such as late president Nelson Mandela's 75th birthday, she's also lead the New Zealand and South African national anthems at the historic 1995 World Cup rugby final.

But Sibongile didn't stop there with her achievements, she was also awarded with the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver by the presidency for her "excellent contribution to the development of SA art and culture in the musical fields of jazz and opera". 

What a lady! 

Sibongile's close friend who  released the sad news has asked that the family be given the space to handle things their way until they are ready to announce the details of the passing.
