LISTEN: "My husband thinks it's inappropriate to suggest contraceptives for our 20-year-old daughter"

Irrespective of age, talk about sex between parents and their kids can be awkward.

This week, Stacey and J Sbu have received a voice note from a KZN mom who is seeking advice with regards to her 20-year-old daughter.

To protect the identity of all parties involved, we will refer to the mom as 'Margret'.

'Margret' is the proud mama of a daughter she shares with her husband. 'Margret' and her daughter share a very special and close bond and discuss almost everything with one another:

Whilst catching up with her daughter recently, she requested that her mom help her choose a contraceptive.

Have a listen to the short podcast as shared by 'Margret' below:

'Margret' and her husband had the 'birds and the bees' talk with their daughter in her early teens. As far as they know, she is not sexually active.

She has, however, been dating her boyfriend for two years. According to 'Margret', he is a very responsible and polite young man.

When 'Margret' told her husband that she would be helping their daughter with choosing a contraceptive that would work for her, his reaction was of shock and outrage:

The truth is that all families are different, what may work for one will not necessarily work for another.

'Margret' has requested that fellow parents help her calm her husband's concerns as she fears that his reaction will drive their daughter away and stop her from being open with them.

Facebook user and friend of the show, Ashni Govender-lutchminarain, shared the following with 'Margret': " Mum, your daughter is being responsible I know some parents are old fashioned but we living in a hard society now better safe than sorry your daughter is a grown woman and has the right to make that decision."

Stacey and J Sbu heard from KZN listener Madelaine who shared her advice for Margret and her husband below:
