On the 23rd of March 2020, South Africans gathered around for what is now known as a 'family meeting' with the number one citizen of the country, Ramaphosa.

The team shared their initial reactions to the announcement. For Stacey her first thought was how would her granny whom she so affectionately refers to as her 'G-Unit' would cope and survive. Stacey's gran is still very independent in Cape Town even though Stacey's mom lives close by.

For J Sbu on the other hand, the lockdown and pandemic in general hit really close to home - his mom is a nurse and thus a frontline worker so he was concerned for her safety and the thought that she could be infected.

His biggest fears were realised when his mom did contract the virus:

Even though J Sbu's mom survived Covid, during that waiting period in accessing her response to treatment that followed, J Sbu went into a really dark place.

So much so that he started experimenting with drugs to numb the pain.
