KZN man braves raging waters to rescue a dog swept away and stranded at a dam!
Remember the name, Amos Ndlovu, because he is making international headline news for his act of bravery and heroism rescuing a little pup.
What began as a normal day for Amos, a gardener in Champagne Valley in KwaZulu-Natal, had a dramatic and scary end.
As Amos was busy cutting the grass at a client's residence, he heard a terrifying call for help from a man asking for assistance. The man's name is James Stewart, who on the day was taking his afternoon walk with his wife along the Bell Park Dam.

As the two were enjoying their afternoon stroll, they saw Scamp the dog running to cross the causeway after his owner. In a matter of seconds, Scamp was quickly swept up by the current and down the raging river. James, who lives nearby the dam, rushed back immediately to try and find a rope. As he was on his way, he noticed Amos cutting the grass at his neighbour's house.

This is when he screamed for the assistance of Amos, who dropped his tools and came running. Braving the raging waters at the dam, Amos volunteered to be the one to head into the water to try and rescue Scamp. Amos, wrapped the rope that James had managed to get around his wrist and headed into the water.
Holding the rope tightly, he made his way slowly and calmly across the rapid waves of the water to get to Scamp, who was on top of a collection of flat rocks just below the dam wall.
As Amos rescued Scamp, he soothed him with some comforting words before carefully making his way back safely to the shoreline where James was holding onto the other end of the rope to keep him safe.
The girlfriend of James, Stella, filmed the dramatic rescue and shared just how dangerous the rescue mission was with Daily Mail and how Amos could have been severely injured or worse.
If he went over the edge in that torrent if he was not smashed to death on the 100-metre drop the other side then he would have got jammed under a rock and drowned. My heart was in my mouth but I carried on recording anyhow and every single second seemed like a minute as he carried the dog closer and closer to the safety of the bank.
Amos, who is a dog dad himself, shared that he did not hesitate for a second to save Scamp.
I have two dogs myself and know dogs well and could tell by the way this one was crying and barking that he just wanted to be saved and needed a bit of help. Once he was safe in my arms he trusted me and didn’t struggle which made it easier but I was just concentrating on not losing my footing and going over into the floodwater. I know if I had slipped into the water it would have been the end for me but I was determined to save this dog’s life and I felt confident that I could get us both to safety. ‘owever when I handed him to James and got out and tried to give him a pat he only went and tried to bite me!
