When people come together towards a common goal, anything is possible.

Solutions that use sport (mountain-bike racing) and tourism to advance education and rural development in the Underberg area of KwaZulu-Natal are underway by local farmers.

As reported by the Daily Maverick, this land encompasses some of South Africa’s richest commercial farmland, yet is also blighted by widespread unemployment, hunger, and malnutrition.

The people who are assisting in this priceless initiative are all volunteers.

These farmers are United in Growth and operate under the Harry Gwala Agri name.

Their agricultural projects range from small-scale subsistence farming, where bolstering household food security is the objective, to partnering with those who desire to establish commercial enterprises.

The influence and change that they have within this community has been immeasurable.

We can't wait to see what next for these local heroes.

Dylan and the team would like to extend a huge thank you to the farmers associations who underpin the organisation: Highflats-Ixopo, Ingwe, Swartberg and Mount Currie.  And then to acknowledge our partners: Mascor, Pannar Seed, Meadow Feeds, Dairy Farmers South Africa, De Heus, P. Trimborn Agency and The Co-op Community Trust.
