Katlego Maboe's Saftas nomination has been removed

Just a few weeks ago, social media was in a frenzy when the 15th annual South African Film And Television Awards (Saftas) had revealed their 'Best TV Presenter' nominations which included Katlego Maboe.

By now the video showing the former television presenter and personality making his startling cheating confession has become old news.

After the Saftas had originally released its list of nominees for the 15th annual award show, they were met with major backlash when people quickly realised that Katlego had been nominated in the 'Best TV Presenter' category.

When the video had first been released, Katlego had lost his gig as the Expresso show host and OUTsurance had also decided to replace him.

He had seemingly lost all support and the Saftas announcement had come as a shock to many.

The awards have now decided to alter the public-voted category and have officially removed Maboe's nomination from the list.

They have also released a short statement where they explained why they have made this decision:

Katlego had previously walked away with consecutive wins in the same category in 2015 and 2016.

As he is still dealing with the serious domestic abuse allegations that have been made by his former partner, it could be a while before the industry shows him any recognition again, if ever.
