"How do I explain his absence to my child when he grows up..."- KZN listener

A generational curse?
There is no denying that a new addition to a family almost always brings about joy and happiness.
That indescribable feeling is extended to not just the mom and dad, but to the extended family and friends. However, this reality is not always true for every family dynamic.

Meet KZN listener Siyamthanda, a proud dad of an almost one-year-old, who is basking in the happiness of fatherhood. Siyamthanda has written into Stacey and J Sbu for some advice through their popular feature known as #TheFixer.
Siyamthanda is saddened by the lack of effort from his father and son's grandfather to have a relationship with his only grandchild.
Have a listen as he shares his story in the short podcast below:
Siyamthanda acknowledges that even though he and his dad did not necessarily have the father-son picture perfect relationship, he expected more from his dad after he became a father.
I would love my son to have the opportunity to have a relationship with his grandfather, I know that if I were to take my child to my dad physically he would embrace him wholeheartedly, its just really messed up that I have to make such concessions for him as a parent to be an adult.- Siyamthanda, KZN listener
On a recent trip back home to KZN, Siyamthanda made it known to his father that he would be around with his son, who has been sickly since birth.

After spending the weekend in his family home that his father still lives in, he only saw him in person once and during that time, his dad barely spoke or acknowledged his son.
My son has always been a sickly child and recently I came home to KZN to do some cleansing for him, this took place in my family home. My dad has not seen his only grand son since he was born and when I was home, he did not even make the effort to see my son.- Sityamthanda, KZN listener
We reached out to our Facebook community to hear what advice they have for Siyamthanda. Thank you so much for being compassionate friends.
We especially appreciated these words by Kriekie Jonker, who shared the following with Siyamthanda:
I am so sorry that you are even placed in this position in the first place, I always say Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. If he asks tell him with as much honesty and diplomatic and unemotional as you possibly can. If he wants to find them and meer them let him, he needs to decide for himself if he want to have them around ❤️ sending positive vibes- Kriekie Jonker- KZN Listener
Siyamthanda, we wish you and your family well.
