Eastern tiger snake found under a microwave inside a Melbourne office kitchen
Updated | By Stacey and JSbu
A deadly eastern tiger snake was found beneath a microwave in an office kitchen - and to make matters worse, the reptile had enough venom to kill all six workers inside the room. What a close call...
What seemed like a normal day at work turned into one filled with panic.
The workers at Parks Victoria office at Templestowe in Melbourne were left shocked after an extremely venomous snake poked its head out from beneath their microwave.
The eastern tiger snake was found curled up behind the appliance in the staff kitchen.
Luckily for them, well known snake hunter, Mark Pelley, was available for the job and was called to the scene to remove the deadly animal on January 11.
Mr Pelley told the Herald Sun:
I opened the cupboard, which had the microwave inside, and a head popped out from underneath- Mr Pelley
Mr Pelley was able to remove the microwave from the cupboard and safely catch the snake within minutes of his arrival.
He said the snake was likely seeking shelter from the hot weather.
But, surprisingly, he said it was his first time being called to remove a snake from beneath a microwave in all his years working across Australia.
He also told The Australian that the snake had enough venom to kill all of the six staff members present in the office. Which, of course, didn't sit well with everyone, knowing that their lives were almost in danger...
This eastern tiger snake is considered the fifth most deadly snake in the world, with venom strong enough to kill a victim within an hour of a bite.
They leave you alone if you leave them alone, but if you try to pick them up or kill them they'll bite you- Mr Pelley
