First of all, as far as I know, no South African artist has been caught buying an award of any kind. However, there has been strong speculation that there are some that have serious influence when it comes to who gets what and when. Babes Wodumo came out with a strong message on her Instagram trying to discredit the Awards and explained how unfair it is that she didn’t win.

Whether anyone is buying an award or not is not my question, but I’d rather find out why anyone would want to buy an award? Surely if you’re buying an award for bragging rights then you don’t deserve the award and you’ll know the truth deep down? No amount of money can hide your shame. Do they buy awards because it means their booking fee goes up? I can understand that and it makes sense, but is it fair? Hell naw!
I chatted to senior entertainment journalist, blogger, and community manager Gabie Mbele to dish the dirt on what is going on behind the scenes.
