“A university degree is a waste of time” – Bongani Urban
Updated | By Bongani Urban
Hear Bongani speak his mind when it comes to your university
degree and how you’ve wasted your time and money getting a “useless piece of
paper”.
I dropped out of everything I tried studying. In fact, if I completed the first degree I set out to do, I would probably be working in a gym somewhere as an instructor, earning peanuts, and I’d be very unhappy. Instead of wasting my time on getting a degree, I chose to work hard instead.
When I was selling cars I was making a lot of money, while my friends were studying and getting themselves into debt. Now they’ve completed these fancy degrees and for what? They can’t find work, and the jobs they do land up taking have got nothing to do with what they studied.

Doctors, lawyers, accountants - you’re not included in this generalised statement, but I do think if you’re not sure what you want to do when you leave school, I think getting a job is the best thing for you. Don’t waste your time and stop wasting your parent’s money on something that’s not going to get you anywhere.
If I’m not making any sense, then listen to this:
Of course I believe in knowledge, learning, and studying. Of course I believe in university degrees. Please don’t take what I am saying here and now never study anything. Go get your degree, but do I think studying for three to five years with a huge loan from the bank and then not getting a job is worth it? You’re wasting your time. Do I think you should find a job after matric and figure out what you want to be and study afterwards? Yes.
Do you agree with me or am I wrong here?
