Is it okay to have a best friend from the opposite sex?

My wife and I both have our own sets of friends. I have male friends and she has female friends, and it works for us. No one gets hurt, no one has to feel insecure or jealous because the temptation has been taken away. In fact, we haven’t even spoken about it, it’s just an unwritten rule.

I took an email from an anonymous listener who thinks she’s crazy because of her jealousy. Her boyfriend has a best friend who is female. They call each other daily, go for lunches, and even end each of their conversations with "I love you". I draw the line at calling each other daily, and now they say they love each other? No, it’s not okay. I don’t care who you are or how long you’ve known each other for, in my household, this will never happen.
There were some of you who disagreed with me. One caller said his wife was best friends with a guy and he was totally okay with it. So maybe I am wrong? If it clearly works for them then who am I to judge, right?
