The gloves are off as Somizi gets ready for his roast!
Updated | By Thandolwethu
South African viewers will witness only the third comedy roast featuring a local celebrity. Previous roastees were the controversial Steve Hofmeyr and Kenny Kunene.
Comedy Central’s Roasts are known for being legendary. The format of the show allows edgy content that is not normally televised on South African screens- which I absolutely LOVE.
The Roast will be recorded on Thursday 26 April at The Lyric Theater in Gold Reef City, Johannesburg and will then be broadcast on the 7th of May, with an uncensored version available on Showmax on the 8th of May.
This year's roast master will be the man who is notorious for giving us the shock value every time he opens his mouth, Mr Gareth Cliff.
“It’s going to be, from beginning to end, outrageous,” said Cliff in a promo video. “You know who we’re roasting. Outrageous is the only word I can think of.”- Gareth Cliff
Not much of Somizi's life is unknown to the public, as he lives and shares most parts of his life on screen and off with millions of South Africans on his reality show. Which gives the celebrity roast panel plenty of ammunition.
Forming part of the celebrity panel to roast Somizi are: Kurt Darren, Fikile Mbalula, Nomzamo Mbatha, DJ Fresh, and Ntsiki Mazwai.
So, how far will they go? Only time will tell. What we do know for sure though is that Somizi is the king of clap backs and he will hold his own when he gets his right of reply after the roast.
Which local celebrity would you like to see being roasted in future?
