Bongani opens up about the time he didn’t pitch for a gig
Updated | By Bongani Urban
During a recent gig, the East Coast Urban producer and event manager were frantically searching for Bongani, but he could not be found. Here's exactly what went down...
I have way too much pride and sometimes (okay, most of the time) it gets in the way of me doing things.
I was booked to be the DJ at a really big event this past weekend. I was making my way to the event, but I had run out of data. I didn’t know where the venue was situated and without data, I couldn’t use my GPS on my phone to locate it.
I only had R13 airtime and decided to call a friend who was at the event so that they could give me directions, but it was too loud and he didn’t know the directions either.
At this point, I found myself stressing because not only did I not have airtime, but I was broke - as in I didn't have a single penny left in my bank account. The event organisers were continuously calling me and they’re a pretty big deal in the industry. I didn’t want to tell them I didn’t have enough money for data, so I just told them I was on my way.
I was so embarrassed. I even drove to a petrol station to get directions. Then, on my way, I drove into a huge pothole and burst a tyre. Now I have no money, no airtime, no data, and my tyre burst. I was running so late to this huge gig that in a panic, I decided to turn my phone off.
Take a listen to a more detailed account of what happened...
