He recently visited a local doughnut shop and it was this that prompted the doughnut cravings.
This past weekend, he switched his seat behind the mic for a kitchen apron and tried out making some delicious homemade doughnuts - which are guaranteed to have you salivating for more.
Check out the recipe below:
Ingredients
- 300g sugar
- 300g plain flour
- Three-quarters of a cup of lukewarm milk
- 2 large eggs
- A pinch of salt
- A tablespoon of butter
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- Half teaspoon vanilla essence
- Oil to fry the doughnuts in
- 10g yeast
- A bit of chocolate to melt and drizzle
Method
- Crack the eggs, add them to a bowl and beat them
- Add lukewarm milk, yeast, sugar and stir in
- Add the butter which acts as a binding agent. You can add the salt in here now too
- Add the pinch of salt and vanilla essence in
- Whisk all the ingredients together ("It is almost like a stress reliever," says Mike)
- Gradually add a bit of flour and use a sieve to get it airy
- Once you get to a dough consistency, cover the bowl and place in the fridge for 30 minutes
- Once out the fridge, dust a bit of flour onto a surface and roll the dough out flat
- Use a cup to get the circular shape and perhaps the vanilla essence lid to cut the hole out in the middle
- Set it aside while your oil is getting hot to deep fry the dough
- Fry your doughnuts for 50 seconds to a minute each side till they're golden brown and cooked all the way through
For the chocolate topping
- Break some chocolate in (as much as you want) and add some milk in a pot. Heat both ingredients and stir to avoid burning
- Either drizzle the chocolate on top, or place one side of the doughnut in the chocolate
- Optional: Add toppings of your choice
Voila!
