A particular former President of South Africa was in the crowd entertained by the Breakfast host.
We caught up with our main man Darren Maule to hear more about his glamorous evening at Durban’s International Convention Centre over the weekend.
"I knew it was going to be a long day on Friday but I certainly didn’t expect to be up gone midnight, doing a spot of karaoke with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra!" says Darren.

His day started as usual with coffee in bed at 4.30am before heading to East Coast Radio to host the province’s favourite breakfast show, Darren, Keri & Sky.
By 4pm he had arrived at the Durban ICC looking suave in a black tuxedo and his favourite ‘banana’ cufflinks, gifted to him by his wife Anna Banana for his birthday last year.
Darren is well known for being one of Durban’s top MCs and he is used to hosting large corporate events, but Friday night was particularly special.
It would be the first time Darren would be entertaining a former South African President!

The glitzy event saw the main ICC arena packed with many of Durban’s leading individuals and businesspeople, ready to raise funds for the 100-year-old Aryan Benevolent House.
When asked if having former President Thabo Mbeki in attendance changed his comedy content, he told us, "Not really".

"I had some material ready with impersonations of some South African Presidents and I did see him laughing heartily, so knew I was on the right track.
"He even was even able to enlighten me on the history of ‘All Protocol Observed’ which sits at the heart of the sketch, so that was pretty cool," says Darren.
The evening saw the world-class KZN Philharmonic Orchestra entertain with three wonderful pieces.
It was towards the end of the evening that a whopping R1.2-million was announced in donations.
