Tributes pour in after the death of Khensani Maseko

It is alleged that the Rhodes University student committed suicide after being raped in May this year.

Tributes have poured in on social media for Khensani Maseko, who, according to IOL, committed suicide at her parents home in Johannesburg over the weekend. Maseko was allegedly raped by her boyfriend at the time in May.

The third-year Bachelor of Arts student was a member of the SRC, as well as the Economic Freedom Front.
Maseko was vocal about how she felt moments before taking her own life through posts she made on her Instagram account.

Maseko's death came at a crucial time during Women's Month. According to Africa Check, an average of 109 rapes are recorded every day in South Africa.
According to an article on sexual violence in South Africa, over 40% of South African women will be raped in their lifetime and that only 1 in 4 rapes are reported. It is also estimated that 14% of perpetrators of rape are convicted in South Africa.
Come on, South Africa, we can do more. If you have been a victim of rape, regardless of your gender and have nowhere to go or don't know how to report it, there are many safe havens and special homes and centers who will be able to assist you.
