There's a strong push for an extra public holiday in December

Are we set to get an additional public holiday in 2022?
Due to the way Christmas falls this year, South Africans are set to miss out on one of the public holidays.

According to Business Tech, the Leadership of the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) have requested for another public holiday in December.
The federation has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa in order to get this approved.
The reason for this move by the federation is that this year, Christmas falls on a Sunday.

According to section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act 1994, if a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be the public holiday.
However, this year, Monday, 26 December, is already a public holiday (Day of Goodwill).
FEDUSA is hoping for the result to be the same as in 2016.
In that year, when Christmas Day also fell on a Sunday, Cosatu worked hard for an extra public holiday in December.

Following that request, former president Jacob Zuma declared 27 December 2016 a public holiday.
