The government had just recently updated South Africa’s minimum wage on 1 March 2022.
The amount was set at R23.19 for each ordinary hour worked and it represents an increase of 6.9% from the minimum wage that was set back in 2021.

Minimum wages for domestic workers and farmworkers was also set at R23.19 for each ordinary hour worked as part of a planned equalisation which was initiated.
The expanded public works programme employs workers on a more temporary basis.
The new minimum wage debate is set for talks later this year. The formal change is set to be made in March 2023.
The discussions will have to take into consideration inflation, fuel prices, grocery inflation, and not forgetting the price hike in public transportation that will take place on 1 July.
