Remember from PE to Gqeberha? South Africa continues to change more town names!

Here is what you can expect...
When Port Elizabeth changed to Gqeberha in 2021, it was quite monumental.
Prepare yourself for more because Sport, Arts and Culture minister Nathi Mthethwa has approved several more name changes for South Africa.

On Wednesday (16 March), he announced these name changes which will directly impact the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga provinces.
The following will be changing soon:
Mount Flether - Tlokoeng (EC)
St Augustine - Mahlubini (EC)
Driehoek - Uhlelo (MP)
Donkerhoek - eNtababusuku (MP)
Allmansdrift - Maphanga (MP)

“There was a need for the name changes as this is part of a government programme to transform South Africa’s heritage landscape. The names of places we live in reflect the identity and cultural heritage of the people of South Africa,” Mthethwa said.
Remember we tried to rename Durban last year?
