Sky's favourite rugby man Rassie Erasmus set for 2nd Springbok coaching stint

The search for a new Springbok head coach is set to be delayed until 2025 as Rassie Erasmus is expected to step into the role after the World Cup.
Rassie Erasmus is a name that is becoming increasingly familiar in the world of rugby.
However, with the announcement last month of the current Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber, who will be leaving for Leinster after the 2023 World Cup it is believed that Rassie is the man who will coach them after the world cup.

According to the SA Rugby Magazine website, Rassie Erasmus is expected to step into the role after the World Cup.
SA Rugby last month announced that assistant coaches Deon Davids, Mzwandile Stick, and Daan Human, as well as head of athletic performance Andy Edwards, had all extended their contracts until 2027.
However, according to the Sunday newspaper Rapport, SA Rugby’s plan is to re-install Erasmus as the head coach until 2025.
It was thought that one of either Davids or Stick, who have previously held head coaching roles in different capacities before, was being lined up to take over from Jacques Nienaber.
Despite the assistant coaches staying on until 2027, Erasmus is to fully prepare one of Davids or Stick to take over as head coach in time for the next World Cup in Australia.

Erasmus has had a long and successful career in the sport, having been involved in the game since his teenage years when he played for the Free State Cheetahs.
He then went on to be a coach at the Cheetahs and eventually became the team’s Director of Rugby.
His success at the Cheetahs led to him being appointed as the South African national team’s head coach in August 2018.

Erasmus, whose contract with SA Rugby runs until 2025, has juggled both the head coach and director of rugby roles before.
This was when he was first appointed back in 2018 and he went on to lead the Boks to the 2019 World Cup.
