"Periods made young girls miss school, so I had to act super fast!" - Lesego Mpyana

It is unfortunate that sanitary care and products in South Africa still aren't free. 

Organisations like The Red Movement SA founded by Lesego Mpyana and her husband, Joseph Mpyana, are way more significant than they probably ever imagined.

When a girl misses school for weeks, the chances of them repeating the grade are high. 

Teenagers hate being embarrassed by repeating grades, which then leads to dropping out. 

An education thrown away simply because a girl could not afford basic sanitary products.

Lesego, born and bred in Vaal, identified this problem and came up with a solution that not only ensured girls aren't stuck at home, but that they don't have to spend any money when they're on their periods.  

The mother of two had dreamt of being a teacher when she was younger. 

Regardless of the Degree in Strategic Communications, she currently works with children full time, travelling from school to school empowering young women with this menstrual cup. The universe led her exactly to where she wanted to be!

What stands out the most about the great work Move Africa and The Red Movement SA do is that above all else, it is making education accessible for young women every school day of the month. 

Missing school because you cannot afford basic needs is not fair for young kids.
