In response, the CMA has taken a proactive approach to address these concerns, signalling a renewed commitment to the participants and the integrity of this historic event.

Mqondisi Ngcobo, who is the Chairperson of The Comrades Marathon Association, has noted runners’ concerns and plans to conduct Race Organising Committee portfolio debriefs in the coming weeks.

After hearing news about this, the Breakfast team, Darren and Sky, tracked down Mqondisi for an interview to hear more about these concerns.

Since its inception in 1921, the Comrades Marathon has become a symbol of camaraderie, determination, and the triumph of the human spirit.

Every year, thousands of runners from around the world gather to test their physical and mental limits, pushing through pain and exhaustion to reach the finish line.

Yet, as the race has evolved, so have the challenges faced by both organisers and participants.

Acknowledging the importance of participant feedback, the CMA has taken a significant step forward by actively engaging with runners and addressing their concerns.

CMA chairperson Mqondisi Ngcobo has eluded to the fact that they will be taking everything into account.

"Our race has always been about putting runners first, and once we have finalised our debriefs, taking into account some of the concerns that our runners have raised," says Ngcobo.

Through surveys, open forums, and direct communication channels, the CMA has invited runners to share their experiences, suggestions, and concerns regarding various aspects of the race.
