It's a little easier to get your car licence in South Africa now!

Everybody loves a good chance to skip a long queue! This is what you'll experience at the South African Post Office following the implementation of their new systems. 

The South African Post Office has recently shared that they are changing their queuing and the online systems.

Their main focus is cutting the queues to reasonable levels and to serve the customer promptly. The key changes will see the introduction of separate queues for the normal customers who do their everyday transactions. 

This includes money transfers, bill payments, and other postal services. 

Together with the new processes they have introduced is the development of a mobile application to renew motor vehicle licences. The app will see the customer completing the whole process in the comfort of their own homes or offices.

The whole renewal process, including payment, will be done on the app, leaving only the last step of accessing the actual disc. 

This will be done in one of two ways:

• The customer can either choose to collect from an SA Post Office outlet nearby;
• The South African Post Office can deliver the disc to the customer – at an affordable delivery fee.

Nomkhita Mona, group chief executive of the South African Post Office, said that the Post Office would also offer an additional service in allowing bulk motor vehicle licence renewals for fleet and employees of companies.

This service entails the collection of all necessary documentation from company premises, taking them back to the Post Office for processing, printing, and delivery back to their offices.

The Post Office is in the process of offering this bespoke service to more companies and other customers.

NOTE: Not all South African Post Office branches are licenced to provide the car licence renewal service, and it is advisable to check the availability of the service at specific components. 

These branches can be found on the SAPO website here.

The service is offered in all provinces except the Western Cape. However, the Post Office said that it expects to provide the service in the province soon.

So, less lines for motorists!
