1. Over 4000 people evacuated in Indonesia due to volcanic eruption
Thousands have fled the scene of a rumbling Indonesian volcano that burst to life for the first time in eight years, resulting in a massive column of smoke and ash. The evacuation of more than 4 400 residents came as Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted Sunday, spouting a thick tower of debris four kilometres (2.5 miles) into the sky, triggering a flight warning and the closure of a local airport.

2. Singer Cher helped bring lonely elephant to a sanctuary in Cambodia
A 36-year-old overweight Asian elephant, who has spent much of his life languishing alone in captivity, is on his way to a sanctuary in Cambodia, thanks in part to the efforts of American pop star Cher. Early Monday local time in Pakistan, Free The Wild, a charity Cher co-founded, wrote on Instagram that Kaavan was being loaded onto a plane and beginning his journey to Cambodia.

On Sunday President elect Joe Biden's office announced he was going to be examined by an orthopedist "out of an abundance of caution" after he twisted his ankle playing with the dog.
