1. 70-year-old pulled out alive from Turkey earthquake rubble

Rescue workers have extricated a 70-year-old man from a collapsed building in western Turkey. The man was pulled out of the rubble overnight and is doing well at a hospital after a strong earthquake in the Aegean Sea struck Turkey and Greece, killing at least 51 and injuring more than 900 people. The quake was centred in the Aegean, northeast of Samos, and hit at a depth of some 16km before a small Tsunami was triggered.

2. John Steenhuisen elected new DA leader

John Steenhuisen has been elected to lead the DA full-time for the next three years. Steenhuisen, who has been interim leader since November last year after the resignation of Mmusi Maimane, defeated KwaZulu-Natal MPL Mbali Ntuli at the DA virtual congress at the weekend, with Steenhuisen obtaining 80% of the votes.

Today marks exactly a year since the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup against England in Japan! If you don't remember, South Africa beat England 32-12. So many memories and celebrations throughout the country. What do you remember about this day?

4. Man eats 420 grams of marmite in one minute

Billy "Bilnasty" Cowley of Pretoria vowed to make his life more exciting after he survived melanoma skin cancer 13 years ago, and that quest led to his taking on the world record for eating Marmite, a yeast extract food spread that's a byproduct of the beer brewing process. Last week, he broke a Guinness World Record when he ate 420 Grams of Marmite (just more than 3 average bottles) in one minute.

5. Widow of Sir Sean Connery pays heartfelt tribute 

The widow of 'James Bond' star Sir Sean Connery has described his final moments as she made a heartfelt tribute to her husband. Micheline, 91, has told how the actor was blighted by dementia in his final months and "slipped away without a fuss". Sir Sean, who found fame as the original James Bond in 1962's 'Dr No', had not been seen publicly since 2017.
