Woman spends R73k to marry herself

Yes, it is a thing and it is all about self-love...
Marriage isn't everyone's cup of tea. It has traditionally been something that many cultures believe in or abide by as it is something of a tradition.
But with other concepts such as monogamy, polygamy, and now sologamy, it is something of whirlwind.
'Sologamy, also known as “self-marriage” or “self-partnering,” is a symbolic ceremony where a person commits to a meaningful and loving relationship with themselves and a promise to give themselves what they often seek from other people.' (YouTube)
Danni, a 30-year-old woman from the USA, made a commitment to herself in her self-wedding late last year.
And she spent a whopping $4,000 (R73,000) on her wedding, and says marrying herself was a way of starting over as she was not living for herself.
If we step out of the normality bubble, it is a grand gesture to marry oneself. It is an affirmation of sorts to loving yourself forever.
And, ultimately, that is a commitment that everyone should make before making it to another person.

Of course, you are never ever going to make everyone happy when you do something that society is not used to.
But we think that is the very reason why Danni, and other women who have self-married, have done it. Because they are not concerned about conforming to other people's versions of what they should be, but rather putting themselves first.
And that is a big deal.
It is something admirable (weird, in terms of the historical context of marriage), but definitely something you have to really think about to get down with.
