Delivering a speech isn't always an easy task, it takes courage and sometimes the emotions take over and you feel that lump in your throat. But when it comes to being autistic, it's even more challenging.

In case you didn't know, autism is a "neurodevelopmental condition of variable severity with lifelong effects that can be recognized from early childhood, chiefly characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour." (Wikipedia)

The key characteristic to note here is that those with autism fear social interaction, so bare that in mind when hearing this story, because that is a huge factor in what makes this story special.

When the groom asks you to be their best man, it is a huge honour. It is something that shows how important you are to them, but it also comes with great responsibility and trust. In this case, the groom asked his younger brother to stand up with him on his wedding day.

We later find out that his younger brother is autistic, but when it comes to giving a speech, this best man knocked it out of the park. He was honest and that is something that we rarely find these days, it is truly the one ingredient that made this speech wholesome.

One of the things we loved about his speech in particular was the wonderful words he dedicated to his new sister-in-law. If there is one trait that we find similar in autism and in children in general, is their ability to be true screeners of good people.

His words towards 'Maddy', his sister-in-law, are indicative of the type of person she has been to him and his family. We love that, it is such a beautiful love story, a family that embraces each other and lifts each other up. It can't be easy dealing with autism as a family, but this family and this speech that Sam delivered so eloquently, shows that being consistent and working together as a family is possible...

He said that his brother has always been there for him and said: "You always reminded me that being different is a real strength not a weakness..."

We couldn't have said it better even if we tried...
