WATCH: From an oil rig to an extreme park tourist attraction in Saudi Arabia

Being creative in your approach to reeling in tourists and upping your country's revenue is not an easy fit for any countryman. Especially when for years you have been spoilt for choice with the big money maker, oil. 

So to adapt and evolve in the process of innovation, is an admirable cause. We know that many South Africans call the middle east their home away from home. We also know that they form part of the entertainment and leisure workforce in these countries.

Saudi Arabia has decided to join the revolution by creating the world's first tourism destination that is inspired by offshore oil platforms. The Rig will be the ultimate destination for tourists who visit the Arabian Kingdom. 

"Renderings of the upcoming attraction, which aims to "provide a multitude of hospitality offerings, adventures, and aquatic sporting experiences," along with a promotional video, were released earlier this month." (CNN)

"Described as the "world's first tourism destination inspired by offshore oil platforms," the upcoming attraction is being devised in line with the long-term Saudi Vision 2030's strategy, which aims to reposition Saudi Arabia as a top international tourism destination and diversify its economy." It is interesting to see Saudi Arabia repositioning itself as a tourism destination considering it is notoriously known for its limitations on freedoms of all sorts. Nevertheless, they are trying to reinvent their image and we have to give them a thumbs up for that...
